The digital help Schiphol, together with several partners, offers truck drivers to find a suitable waiting location has won the Computable Award 2022 in the Large Business Project category. CTC Amsterdam Westkant, Port of Amsterdam, Wallenborn, Be-Mobile and Schiphol jointly found a solution for the logistical flow of trucks at and around Schiphol. With 21 percent of the votes, this solution won the award in one of 16 categories.
"Schiphol is working hard with digital tools to further develop accessibility around Schiphol in a clean, efficient and smart way. With this project we are making it digitally clear to truck drivers where they can find a safe waiting place if they cannot get to Schiphol immediately. This is a first step towards ensuring more efficient traffic flow for trucks in the region."
- Erik Felëus, Smart Building Developer at Schiphol Commercial
Drivers on their way to Schiphol are shown via the Truckmeister app where Schiphol offers buffer locations and how many parking spaces are still available. Based on their schedule, drivers can estimate whether to drive to a buffer location, or load or unload directly at the airport. As a result, they do not park unnecessarily on the road and drive around the area less, which improves traffic flow and reduces CO2 emissions around Schiphol.
Computable awards
During the annual presentation of the Computable Awards, ICT prizes are awarded to companies, projects and individuals who have distinguished themselves in the past year. The winners are determined by an independent jury and the readers of Computable.
