Driving Safer, Smarter, and Smoother in Flanders

Sharing mobility data is key to making your driving experience safer, smoother, and more enjoyable. Be-Mobile processes mobility data on behalf of the Mobilidata program to offer you more personalized traffic alerts and guide you through intelligent intersections more efficiently.

But Mobilidata isn’t just about providing these services—it’s also about improving them. By analyzing data from road users, we can answer important questions like:

  • Are you receiving timely and accurate warnings about hazardous situations on your route?
  • Can we optimize intelligent traffic lights to better manage traffic during rush hour?
  • How can we help emergency services reach accident victims faster?

How Data is Used

Mobilidata uses two key sources of information to evaluate and enhance its services:

  1. Location and Speed Data: We analyze GPS data from specific places and times to assess traffic solutions. For example:
    • Traffic Jam Alerts: Are accurate tail-end traffic jam alerts helping drivers avoid collisions?
    • Intelligent Traffic Lights: At a specific intersection, are green lights being triggered more efficiently during the morning rush?
  2. User Feedback: If you’ve registered with an app, service provider, or car brand, you may be contacted for a short survey. These surveys help us understand your preferences and experiences, such as:
    • When do you or just barely do you want to be informed about dangerous situations on the road?
    • Why do or do not you want to be informed?
    • Which notifications do you find most useful?

How Your Data is Protected

Your data privacy is our top priority. Here’s how we ensure your information is handled responsibly:

  • Data Anonymization: The data you share is first divided into pieces. Any data that could directly identify you is removed after researchers compare behavior with or without warnings. This process can take up to eight weeks.
  • Limited Retention: The remaining data will teach the researchers how to improve the services with as little data as possible and how to collect less and less data for this purpose. In addition, aggregated data will be placed in a database to be used for specific research and evaluation of services for up to a maximum of 5 years.

Our goal is to collect and process the smallest amount of data necessary to continuously refine Mobilidata services.

If you have questions about how your data is processed or protected, you can contact us at dpo.privacy@wegenenverkeer.be.
